New Joint Microsoft and SAP Offering for Microsoft SQL Server
Microsoft and SAP have announced a new joint offering that will simplify and accelerate customer adoption of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and optimize it for the SAP Business Suite. The new offering will enable customers to easily transition to SQL Server 2005 and leverage the benefits of a flexible, enterprise service-oriented architecture (enterprise SOA) to transform their businesses. SAP and Microsoft have also agreed to set up a joint lab in Walldorf, Germany to further optimize SAP Business Suite on SQL Server 2005. This announcement from SAP and Microsoft, in addition to the Duet software announcements made at SAPPHIRE ’07 Atlanta, highlights the companies’ continued commitment to deliver innovative solutions that benefit mutual customers.

On January 20, 2006, less than two months after SQL Server 2005 general availability, SAP released SAP note #905634, updating its support status for SQL Server and showing SAP is ready for SQL Server 2005. SAP states that "Our current test status and the positive feedback from our early production customers allow us ... to support SQL [Server] 2005 for all types of SAP systems, including production systems." The Windows platforms include x86, IA-64, and x64.

Enterprise Class Scalability: 93,000 Concurrent Users

The SAP certified Sales and Distribution three-tier standard application benchmark, using SQL Server 2005 and Windows Server 2003 running on HP and Intel hardware, delivered record-breaking results with 93,000 concurrent users. This 64-processor benchmark, certified on November 3, 2005, is 3.5 times more scalable than SQL Server 2000 and demonstrates the enterprise-class capabilities of SQL Server 2005.

World Class Value: 18,000 Concurrent Users with a Four-Processor Server

The SAP certified Sales and Distribution three-tier standard application benchmark, using SQL Server 2005 and Windows Server 2003 running on HP and AMD hardware, delivered record-breaking value with 18,000 concurrent users in a standard commodity four-processor server. This four-processor benchmark, certified on June 27, 2005, is eight times more scalable than SQL Server 2000.

World-Leading SAP Transaction Banking Results

HP and Microsoft delivered the first SAP certified Transaction Banking (TRBK) Standard three-tier application benchmark. The benchmark, certified on December 22, 2005 (running SQL Server 2005 and Windows Server 2003 Datacenter on a 16-processor database server with HP and Intel hardware), is based on SAP Release Account Management 3.0 (32 bit).
