SQL Server 2008 R2 delivers several breakthrough capabilities that will enable your organization to scale database operations with confidence, improve IT and developer efficiency, and enable highly scalable and well managed Business Intelligence on a self-service basis for your users.  The download links below will launch the Akamai download manager which is designed to provide you with more control over your download experience.

The new PowerPivot for Excel 2010 add-in can be dowloaded from the Business Intelligence Downloads tab.

  1. Some components in the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 November Community Technology Preview have certain Internet-enabled features, including the Customer Experience Improvement Program and Error and Usage Reporting component, enabled by default to help us identify and address issues that you may encounter while using SQL Server. For more information and instructions on how to disable these features, see the SQL Server Privacy Statement.

  2. Some components in the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 November Community Technology Preview have two different methods to complete the installation process:

    1. Attended Installation – an interactive user interface will guide you through the setup process and obtain all of the information and consent required to complete the installation. This includes the displaying, acknowledgement, and archiving of the applicable SQL Server license terms.

    2. Un-attend Installation – this is a DOS command-line setup process that does not have an interactive user interface to guide you through the setup process. In this case, you will be required to enter a parameter during installation that indicates your acceptance of the license terms.

  1. Download SQL Server 2008 R2 November CTP

  2. Download SharePoint 2010 Beta

  3. Configure PowerPivot for SharePoint 2010

Business Intelligence Desktop Installation

  1. Prerequisites

    • - PowerPivot for Excel supports 32-bit or 64-bit machine

    • - PowerPivot requires 2-4 GBs of RAM. The actual amount of memory needed will depend on the PowerPivot solution you are designing

    • - Requires Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7

    • - If you are running a version of Windows other than Windows 7, you will need to download and install the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 from here

  2. Download Microsoft Office 2010 Beta

  3. Download PowerPivot for Excel 2010
    Important: If you are using the 32-bit version of Excel 2010, you must use the 32-bit version of PowerPivot. If you are using the 64-bit version of Excel 2010, you must use the 64-bit version of PowerPivot. The versions are not interchangeable.

  4. Install and configure PowerPivot for Excel 2010

    • - Open the folder where you downloaded PowerPivot for Excel 2010

    • - Double-click the PowerPivot_for_Excel.msi file and follow the steps in the wizard

    • - After the installation is complete, click Finish

    • - Click the Windows Start button, select All Programs, select Microsoft Office 2010, and select Microsoft Excel 2010

    • - When Excel 2010 starts, a message appears asking if you want to install PowerPivot, click OK.

    • - After installation completes, the PowerPivot tab appears in the Office 2010 ribbon.
