Here’s a quick overview of Surface RT features.

The 10.6" touchscreen, with its 16:9 aspect ratio and ClearType technology, is great for watching HD films, browsing the web, and using the included Office apps. Use your fingers to select, zoom or move things around on the screen. For more info, see Surface touchscreen and Touch: Tap, swipe, and beyond.
Typing Covers
Add a unique keyboard that doubles as a protective cover (Typing Covers sold separately). This way you’ll always have a keyboard with you. See Accessories for info on the full range of accessories available for your Surface.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Surface supports standard Wi-Fi protocols (802.11a/b/g/n) and Bluetooth® 4.0. This means that you can connect to a wireless network and use Bluetooth devices such as mice, printers and headsets.
Two cameras – front and back
Two cameras that you can use for video calls, recording videos and taking pictures. The front-facing camera is 3.5 megapixels and the rear-facing camera is 5.0 megapixels. The cameras record video in 1080p HD, with a 16:9 aspect ratio (widescreen).
Dual microphones
Built-in microphones come in handy when recording videos and calling people.
Surface RT features back
Surface has a built-in kickstand so that you can be productive or kick back and have some fun.
Stereo speakers, headset jack, and volume
Listen to music, the radio, podcasts and audio books using apps from the Windows Store or from websites.
  • Full-size USB 2.0 port
    You can connect a variety of USB accessories that have been certified for Windows RT. For more info, see Connect a USB mouse, printer and more.
  • microSDXC card slot
    Surface has a microSDXC card slot (behind the kickstand) that you can use to transfer photos, music, pictures and documents. For more info, see Surface storage options.
  • HD video out port
    Share videos, photos or presentations by connecting your Surface to an HDTV, monitor or projector (adapters and cables sold separately). For more info, see Connect Surface to a TV, monitor or projector.
  • Charging port
    Attach the power supply to the charging port when your battery is low, or use the Surface Car Charger with USB Port (sold separately) when you’re on the go. For more info, see Surface battery and power.

  • Windows RT 8.1
    Windows RT 8.1 is a Windows-based operating system that's optimised for thin and light PCs with extended battery life. For more info, see Windows RT 8.1: FAQ.

    If your Surface RT is running Windows 8, update to Windows 8.1. Check out Update Surface from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1.

  • Microsoft Office 2013 RT
    Surface comes with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote applications built especially for Windows RT. For more info, see Microsoft Office 2013 RT.

    Outlook comes with the Windows 8.1 update.

  • Apps
    Surface comes with a great collection of built-in apps, plus more from the Windows Store. For info on installing apps, see Install and uninstall apps on Surface.

In addition to the internal storage included with Surface RT, there are a few additional storage options.
Surface has four sensors that apps can take advantage of: an ambient light sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope and compass.
