How to get service for Surface

If your Surface product needs service, you can request it online. Here’s how.

Register your Surface product

If you haven’t already registered your Surface product, go to microsoft.com/surface/support/register to do so.

Troubleshoot the problem

Before sending your Surface in for service, try resetting it. Resetting your Surface may help resolve common issues and could save you time and effort. For more info, see Restore or reset Surface.

If you continue to have a problem, you can open a service request and send your Surface product in for service.

Open a service request

Getting service for Surface products is easy.

  • Go to Send my Surface in for service, sign in with your Microsoft account, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • During the process, we’ll let you know if your product is under warranty.
  • If payment is required for the service, you can use American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or PayPal.

Business customers:

  • Contact Surface Support for Business.
  • To ensure the best experience, customers who don’t have a Microsoft Support contract or MSDN or TechNet subscription should submit a service request by phone.

Send us the product

After you’ve opened your service request, we’ll send you an email with shipping instructions.

Prepare your Surface

Before sending us your Surface, back up your files and remove all your accessories. For details, see How to prepare your Surface for service.

You can check the status of your service request at any time.

What to do after service

When you get a Surface back from our service center, follow the steps in Set up your Surface after service.

Accessories, such as Typing Covers, the power supply, and Surface adapters, will be ready to use as soon as you connect them.
