MSDN TechTalk and Hands-on Lab "Silverlight 2"

Silverlight 2 was the star of this year’s Mix conference, taking place in March in Las Vegas. Silverlight 2 brings the power of the Windows Presentation Foundation programming model to the web, cross-browser and cross-platform, introducing C#, Visual Basic .NET and other dynamic languages and many, powerful controls. This makes Silverlight an ideal platform for developing rich, data-driven web applications.

We started the hands-on lab with a presentation, in which we introduced the concept of Silverlight and pointed out the new features that Silverlight 2 adds.

In the second part of the event, the participants had time to develop a solution based on the latest version of Silverlight 2 Beta 1 using a detailed hands-on lab manual and with the help of the on-site specialists from Microsoft. The sample solution were based on the “Comparis Silverlight Challenge”, a competition by Comparis that will award the best Silverlight applications based on the Comparis Carfinder. This hands-on lab offered an ideal kick-start to take part in this competition.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge about Visual Studio and .NET development (C#) recommended 
  • Basic knowledge of XAML recommended 
  • No Silverlight know-how required 

  • Laptop 
  • Visual Studio 2008 Professional or above. Download of the trial edition Download
  • SQL Server Express (Part of the Visual Studio 2008 installation)
