Dear readers,

Two weeks ago Microsoft announced the availability of Visual Studio LightSwitch 2011 - a new tool that enables developers of all skill levels to quickly create and deploy great data centric Silverlight based business applications for the desktop and the cloud.

Applications created with LightSwitch can be attached to existing data sources including Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Azure, SharePoint and other third party data sources. And thanks to a flexible extensibility mechanism, you can use custom controls or themes and completely change the look and feel of your application.

With the launch of this new product, Microsoft also announced the availability of the LightSwitch Starter Kits. They contain a bunch of project templates (representing different kind of applications) which you can download and customize for your own business needs. Moreover, quite a lot of useful extensions have already been built by third-party vendors and are available from here.
