The ETH Game Programming Laboratory
Dr. Nils Thuerey, ETH Zürich
Nils Thuerey is a post-doctoral researcher at the Computer Graphics Laboratory at ETH Zürich. In March 2007, he received his PhD in computer science from the University of Erlangen. He has worked in the field of high-performance fluid simulations with free surfaces using, among others, lattice-Boltzmannn methods. The algorithms are now available as part of the open source application Blender. In addition, he has worked on the topic of real-time fluid simulations for computer games, in collaboration with the AGEIA research group.
The topic of this presentation will be the ETH Game Programming Lecture that is taught for the third time now this year. Groups of three students each have to realize a complete game for the Xbox360 from scratch within the 14 weeks of a semester. To help them organize the process, regular meetings are held in which the students can present their ideas, alpha- and beta-versions, or testing results. The talk will give an overview of the course, show some of the impressive games created in the last years, and give an overview of our experiences with the XNA programming environment.
