Configuration Manager 2007 R2 Licensing

Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 requires a Server License for each management server and a Management License (“ML”) for each managed operating system environment (OSE). The Configuration Manager 2007 R2 Server ML is offered in Enterprise and Standard Editions for management of server OSEs, and in a Client Edition for management of client and other OSEs not running server operating systems.

Licensing Management Suite

Server Management Suite Enterprise provides an easy and economical way for customers to get a complete server management solution for departmental or enterprise server environments.

Configuration Manager 2007 R2 Client ML

The two editions of the Configuration Manager 2007 R2 Server ML are differentiated primarily by the server workload running in the OSE being managed. An Enterprise Server ML is required for full application and server desired configuration management, including the proactive management of systems for configuration settings that follow an industry-leading framework for managing information in changing regulatory and business environments, while a Standard Server ML is limited to operating system and basic workload desired configuration management.

The best way to acquire Configuration Manager 2007 R2 MLs is through our Suite offering. The Microsoft System Center Server Management Suite Enterprise is our comprehensive solution for end-to-end management of physical and virtual server environments, and includes the corresponding edition of the Configuration Manager 2007 R2 Server ML. The Configuration Manager 2007 R2 Client ML is available in the Microsoft Core Client Access License Suite. Alternatively, all Configuration Manager 2007 R2 licenses will are also available on a standalone basis.

For more licensing information, see the Microsoft Licensing Web site.
