Operations Manager 2007 Licensing

Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 requires a Server License for each management server and an Operations Management License (“OML”) for each managed device. The OML is offered in Enterprise and Standard Editions for management of servers, and in a Client Edition for management of clients and other devices not running server operating systems. An Enterprise OML is required for full application and server management and a Standard OML can be used for operating system and basic workload management.

Another alternative for acquiring the Standard OML through Volume Licensing programs are the Microsoft System Center Server Management License (“SML”) suites. The Standard SML is available now and includes the Standard OML for Operations Manager, as well as the standard management licenses for Microsoft® Systems Management Server (SMS) and System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM). The Standard SML offers a simple, convenient and cost effective way to acquire the value of System Center server management for your Windows file servers. The Enterprise SML will be available in Q4 CY2007 and will include the Enterprise versions of the OML and Data Protection Manager Management License, as well as the System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Server Management License, and System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2007.

For more licensing information, see the Microsoft Licensing Web site.
