Performance and Resource Optimization (PRO) is a feature of System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 that enables dynamic management of virtualized infrastructure. To encourage partners to utilize this new technology, PRO provides an open and extensible framework for the creation of Management Packs for virtualized applications or associated hardware. In building these Management Packs enabled for PRO, partners can create a customized solution combining their offerings with the comprehensive monitoring and issue resolution capabilities of PRO.


How SCVMM PRO Partner Solutions Add Value

Partners incorporate deep product and process awareness of their solutions in their Pro enabled Management Packs as realized in rules and policies that PRO will act upon in the event of poor performance or a pending failure. With these pre-determined watch points and resolution steps, PRO can react dynamically to adverse situations and avoid poor system performance or worse. Utilizing PRO’s realtime monitoring and remedial capabilities allows vendors to create value for customers by offering solutions that assess and correct ongoing issues – which can differentiate them from their competitors’ offerings.

At the recent Microsoft Management Summit in Las Vegas, several companies demonstrated conceptual demos or voiced commitment to creating PRO enabled Management Packs and solutions. Learn more about them and their offerings below:

BrocadeBrocade

Brocade's entire Fibre Channel product line supports standards-based N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) enabling multiple virtual servers to share and connect over a single physical interface. System Center Virtual Machine Manager uses Brocade NPIV-enabled FC connections for increased availability and reliability, enhanced application mobility, improved fabric interoperability, greater operational control, and increased scalability by eliminating fabric domain count restrictions. Brocade is committed to working with Microsoft to deliver optimized solutions for the virtual data center.

For PowerEdge™ servers, Dell™ offers a “PRO enabled” Management Pack. Microsoft and Dell are collaborating on the integration of Dell PowerEdge component knowledge within VMM 2008 to provide a comprehensive virtualization management solution.

EMCEMC

EMC offeres CLARiiON storage monitoring and management that can be combined with Microsoft VMM 2008 to provide management of your storage environment from a single point of control.

NetQoSNetQoS

NetQoS helps Microsoft VMM 2008 users quantify the impact of Virtual Machine provisioning on application delivery, manage the datacenter and network for performance, and quickly detect, isolate and fix problems before they impact end users.

QLogicQLogic

QLogic is excited to be working closely with Microsoft to support its server virtualization strategy. This joint effort will provide end to end virtualization to Windows end users with Microsoft’s System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) and QLogic’s NPIV HBA virtualization services, which are fully integrated with Microsoft’s SCVMM.
