Host: Dennis (Microsoft)
Q: Briefly, what is Commerce Server 2002?
A: Commerce Server 2002 is part of the Microsoft Windows Server System. As part of Microsoft’s integrated portal technologies, Commerce Server 2002 can extend your site’s functionality, drive profitability, and enhance the user experience globally. Commerce Server 2002 provides powerful features for user profiling, personalization, catalog management, order processing, globalization, and advanced online business analytics.
Host: Henry (Microsoft)
Q: CommServ2k2 integrates with SQL-Server?
A: Commerce Server leverages SQL Server for most of it's services. Additionally, through the Profile System, you can incorporate data in custom SQL Server DBs or other OLEDB DBs.
Host: Henry (Microsoft)
Q: Data Mining?
A: Commerce Server ships with a very robust Datawarehouse/Business Analytics engine. This includes many out of the box reports as well as the ability to customize and extend.
Host: Henry (Microsoft)
Q: Can I have SQL Server and Commerce Server 2002 installed on same machine?
A: You cand do this, but it is not a recommended production configuration. For Development and even some testing scenarios, this is fine. The docs have several deployment configurations.
Host: Stacey (Microsoft)
Q: Does Commerce server 2002 works on windows 2003
A: It will with the release of Commerce Server SP2 in August
Host: Stacey (Microsoft)
Q: Qhat are some of the features/fixes of sp2
A: The major points are that SP2 enables CS2002 to work on Windows 2003, with Visual Studio 2003, and with the 1.1 Framework. In addition, it removes the connection limit with the developer edition, and enables the developer edition to work on Windows XP
Host: Maria (Microsoft)
Q: If any user, who doesn't have commerce server installed...can he access to business desk....using http:\\servername\retail2002\retail2002bizdesk?
A: you can install the Commerce Server Business Desk client by connecting to the URL for the Business Desk application. You do not need Commerce Server install to access the bizdesk. The URL for the Retail2002 site is http://servername/retail2002bizdesk.
Host: Maria (Microsoft)
Q: When I connect to the URL for the business desk application...it install business desk application but it say that you don’t have right to access business desk, what to do for that?
A: It is a permissions issue. Try accessing the bizdesk with administrator credentials, if this is successful then read the section on securing the bizdesk in the product documentation.
Host: Stacey (Microsoft)
Q: I read somewhere that Commerce Server, Content Management Server, and BizTalk Server were going to merge into one, is that true
A: The integration of these three servers is currently referred to as Jupiter which enables businesses to connect people, process, and information much more easily. Today, these three servers operate together in e-business solutions but they are not physically one product.
Host: Stacey (Microsoft)
Q: What's the advantage of making them one, any tentative release date, what's the pricing structure?
A: Jupiter is centered around the way businesses operate through business process. Connecting data, people, and proceses leverages the capabilities found in all three current products. Tentative date is 2005. No pricing structure yet.
Host: Dennis (Microsoft)
Q: Is CommServ2k2 API supported in .NET FCL ?
A: Do you mean BCL? If so, then yes
Host: Maria (Microsoft)
Q: Yeah, I did the same thing...used administrator user but it still say you don’t have rights. But if I open business desk client where I unpacked the site it works fine but not on any other computer, why?
A: It will require looking/understanding your overall configuration. Is SQL and CS installed on the same server? Is the client within the same domain? It will probably require a support incident since we will need to understand your environment better p
Host: Henry (Microsoft)
Q: So CommServ2k2 actually integrates/interfaces with IIS & SQL-Server?
A: Yes, in fact CS requires IIS and SQL Server.
Host: Stacey (Microsoft)
Q: If I develop with commerce server only, when Jupiter is released will there be a migration needed or will the conversion be automatic like studio projects being converted from 6.0 to .net
A: We are in the planning stages, so I cannot say what the final migration path will look like. We are definitely building the migration consideration into the planning.
Host: Maria (Microsoft)
Q: No, My commerce server and sql server are on 2 diff servers. Yes client is within same domain. what to do now?
A: Try basic authentication first then try to use SQL Authentication.
Host: Alex (Microsoft)
