Looking to set up or extend a Domain Name System with Windows Server 2003? This session will cover how to integrate DNS and Active Directory, which enables your organization to deploy and gain the benefits of Active Directory while still maintaining any existing DNS infrastructure you may have. The session starts with a look at managing and installing DNS, looking at the DNS record AD requires, the installation process, and how resources are located. The session also covers zones, partitions and delegation of authority, automatic updates, scavenging and zone transfers. We’ll finish off with some best practices for deploying and securing DNS.

This session consists of a Windows Media presentation, formatted with embedded links to related resources. To view the presentation with links, click here. Or, if you prefer, jump directly to individual demonstrations:
| • | Installing & Managing DNS. In this demonstration, we show the Configure Your Server and DNS Installation wizards in Windows Server 2003, along with the help file integrated within these tools. The demonstration ends with an introduction to the DNS Management Console, used to administer DNS. |
| • | Active Directory & DNS. In this demonstration, we’ll create a new zone delegation within the root domain and allow management of that domain on a secondary server. Then, we’ll migrate the standard file-based DNS zone to an Active Directory Integrated Zone stored in a newly created Application Directory Partition. |
| • | DNS Features & Configuration. This demonstration walks through the Features and Configuration Options available through the DNS Management Console. Aging and Scavenging and Advanced Debug Logging are covered, along with the properties available for both Zones and Servers. |
| • | Federated Forests. This demonstration introduces a second Active Directory Forest and provides information on how to allow access across forests, using DNS settings. |
