Event Review: Enabling Web and SharePoint Applications on the Internet with ISA Server 2004 (Session TNT1-149)
Welcome to the material supporting page for this session. The materials on this page have been selected as the best matches to the content covered in the live event session.
Session Outline
Many organizations have created SharePoint Web sites and applications that dramatically increase efficiency in team-based collaboration. Organizations often want to publish these sites on the Internet so remote workers and partners can access them without having to use Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) connections or dial-up Remote Access Services (RAS) connections. ISA Server 2004 can be used to publish SharePoint Web sites and applications on the Internet and can also be used to secure access to those sites. ISA Server 2004 and SharePoint integration allows organizations to reduce their dependencies on VPN and RAS connections, while ensuring that security and access control is not compromised. Using ISA Server 2004 to secure and publish SharePoint applications results in a significant reduction of administration and trouble-shooting costs and provides many other business benefits for organizations, such as increased efficiencies in collaboration processes. This session describes how to publish Web sites with ISA Server 2004, choose authentication methods for SharePoint Web sites, secure SharePoint applications with ISA Server 2004, and handle administration issues for published SharePoint applications.

| Demo: Publishing Web Sites with ISA Server 2004
Investigate the network infrastructure that we will use to publish a Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server application. Examine the IP addresses associated with two network adapters on an ISA Server 2004 computer. Examine the IP address of a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 computer. Look at the ISA Server 2004 configuration and verify that the SharePoint portal is accessible only on the internal network. Finally, publish the SharePoint portal using ISA Server 2004 so that it is accessible from the Internet, and we will verify that Internet clients can connect to the portal. Download |
| Demo: Configuring Authentication for SharePoint Applications
Contoso has decided that its SharePoint portal and team sites need to support basic authentication because employees sometimes connect with clients other than Internet Explorer. They use a variety of Web browsers and other devices, depending on their location. Configure the SharePoint Portal Server to allow basic authentication. Configure the site to use secure communication so that user names and passwords are encrypted when employees log on to the portal. Download |
