My name is Rafael Tokashiki. I have been interested in computers since I was 12, when I was introduced to Logo. I was amazed at the things I could draw and later create by giving the “turtle” some commands. Twenty years later, I now work as a system administrator managing a few dozen servers and over a hundred workstations. I became interested in VBScript when I realized that many routine tasks affecting all those machines could be automated or carried out more efficiently. Learning VBScript helped me realize that I could combine its power with other applications to solve even more tasks. I’m not an everyday scripter, but I sure like a good challenge and automation.
Tips
| • | There is no need to spend a lot of money on a scripting IDE; there are many free ones. If you have Office, you have Microsoft Script Editor, which is very good. |
| • | Try to create modular scripts. That way you can use those modules in future scripts without needing to modify them again. |
| • | Participate in the forums and newsgroups to learn more and to share your knowledge. Sharing benefits everyone, and the exchange of ideas boosts everyone’s knowledge even further. Sharing guarantees that your knowledge and efforts will be preserved in the brains of the new generation, who might later remember you for you contributions. |
