In The Display’s the Thing competitors must determine the Active Directory LDAP display names that correspond to various parts of a user’s name, address, and phone number.
Note. The Sudden Death Challenge is a separate competition from the main Scripting Games and Scripting Games events; although anyone can enter the Sudden Death Challenge, it’s primarily designed for those people who manage to breeze through the main Scripting Games events in a day or two. Points Awarded | 1 point in the Sudden Death Challenge |
In Event 8 of the Sudden Death Challenge we’re testing your knowledge of Active Directory and the Active Directory schema; to be more specific, we’re testing your knowledge of LDAP display names. For example, consider the following user information:
Kenneth J Myer 712 NE 40th Way Redmond, WA 98052 USA 1-425-555-1234 kmyer@fabrikam.com
As it turns out, each item in this information has an LDAP name; for example, the user’s email address – kmyer@fabrikam.com – corresponds to the mail attribute in Active Directory. Your job is to determine which attributes the other items correspond to, and then use that information to complete the following table:
Value | LDAP Display Name |
Kenneth | - |
J | - |
Myer | - |
712 NE 40th Way | - |
Redmond | - |
WA | - |
98052 | - |
USA | - |
1-425-555-1234 | - |
kmyer@fabrikam.com |
Can we give you a hint as to what these attribute names are, or where you can find them? No, we can’t. However, we can tell you that the user’s address information and his telephone number are his business address and his work phone number, respectively. Admittedly, that’s not much of a hint, but it should help you do things like choose between work phone, home phone, and mobile phone when determining the LDAP display name that goes with 1-425-555-1234.
After completing the script, click here to submit your entry. If the link doesn’t automatically open a pre-addressed message, send email to scripter@microsoft.com with the subject line Sudden Death Challenge: Event 8.
All you have to do is paste your solution into the body of the message and then send the mail. You may also include the following:
| • | A name or nickname we can use to identify you when posting Sudden Death Challenge points leaders. |
| • | The name of the country you would like to represent. This might be your country of birth or the country you currently live in, but it doesn’t have to be; you can represent any country you wish. |
Note that Sudden Death points/participation will not be included in either the User Group or International Challenges.
You can simply type these items in at the top of the email. In that case, your email might look something like this:
Ken Myer USA Northern Iowa User Group Value LDAP Display Name kmyer@fabrikam.com mail
