This guide describes the build process for the internal Active Directory forest and provides additional configuration information for the external Windows Server System Reference Architecture (WSSRA) perimeter forest on the perimeter network.

This section provides Active Directory build information that is not scenario-specific.

Knowledge Prerequisites

Successful completion of the steps detailed in this guidance requires a certain level of technical knowledge. The guidance in this guide is written assuming the following level of experience and knowledge:

Two years of Windows NT 4.0 experience in a networked environment.

Three months of experience with directory and/or DNS technologies.

Access (including Web site links) to existing manuals and guides for Microsoft Active Directory.

Service Prerequisites

The following table contains service prerequisites for implementation of Microsoft Active Directory as described in this guide.

Network Devices
