Who Should Read This GuideThis guide is written for information technology (IT) professionals involved in building, deploying, and testing enterprise messaging systems. Consultants, system architects, and others who are responsible for implementing messaging systems based on Exchange Server 2003 will directly benefit from the information provided in this guide. In addition, the IT test staff that is responsible for the testing of application or infrastructure development and deployment will benefit from the testing guidance provided in this guide. Information in This GuideThis guide provides information required to build the messaging infrastructure including the steps necessary to create the Windows Server System Reference Architecture (WSSRA) Exchange 2003 infrastructure, which was tested in a lab environment against a predefined, fictional organization. While a lab environment cannot provide a completely accurate simulation of a real world system, with proper planning and resources, it can provide a reasonable approximation of the expected decisions to be made, processes to be followed and, load on an enterprise messaging system. It is assumed that the reader has a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Exchange 2003, the Exchange System Management tool (ESM console), the command line, and various system utilities. This guide covers details of system utilities only to the extent complete specific tasks; it does not deal with them in elaborate detail. This guide also describes the test process that was used to validate the implementation of this document set. It provides information on:
Information in this guide is designed to present the actual build process followed by an enterprise messaging service deployment based on strategies, business drivers and design requirements illustrated in the WSSRA Messaging Services Blueprint and Planning Guides. It is not meant to be a definitive design and configuration standard, but a proof point and process flow for strategic and planning decisions made in the Messaging Services Blueprint and Messaging Services Planning Guide. Note: The tasks within this guide should be followed in the order in which they are presented to avoid any unexpected results. |
