The design of enterprise messaging systems is a critical part of the overall systems architecture described in the Windows Server System Reference Architecture (WSSRA) documentation. This blueprint provides guidance on the design and provisioning of enterprise-scale messaging services, including architectural considerations for secure deployment of services outside the enterprise network. In developing the blueprint, emphasis was laid on business requirements that drive the architectural design and service implementation. The first part of this blueprint describes the design process used to develop the enterprise service blueprint; subsequent sections of this blueprint cover the processes used to define service goals and the design options that are available to meet the defined goals. This blueprint concludes with a discussion of validation of the proposed service design in a lab environment. On This Page
Who Should Read This BlueprintThis blueprint is written for information technology (IT) professionals involved in planning and designing enterprise messaging systems. Consultants, system architects, and other professionals who are responsible for designing and implementing messaging systems based on Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 will directly benefit from the information provided in this blueprint. Security, storage, and network architects may find portions of this blueprint useful in planning the integration of Exchange 2003 in their areas of responsibility. Architects and planners for small and medium-scale deployments may benefit from the discussion on selecting service options for a deployment later in this blueprint. Information in This BlueprintThis blueprint covers the following topics:
Other components of the WSSRA Messaging Services documentation set cover some of these topics in greater depth; this blueprint provides references to them wherever relevant. |
