To get the most reliable Exchange 2003 server operation, it might be necessary to properly configure a number of system memory attributes, depending on the physical memory and operating system on this server. These attributes include the:

  • /3GB flag in the boot.ini file
  • /USERVA flag in the boot.ini file (not applicable on Windows 2000 servers)
  • SystemPages registry value (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management)
  • HeapDeCommitFreeBlockThreshold registry value (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager)
