The Project Panel is always open when a project (font) is loaded. The Substitution and Positioning tools specify the contents of specific lookups. The Glyph Definition Tool gives access to glyph properties and allows for quick glyph access and for dragging glyphs out of it into specific lookups. Everywhere where a glyph is referenced, it could be either referenced by typing its name or by dragging the glyph itself from the Glyph Definition Tool.
The Glyph Definition Tool allows the user to name glyphs in the font. A glyph name never appears without showing its representation on the same screen, and vice versa. Glyph names are saved with the project or can be saved separately and later loaded into different fonts that happen to have the same glyph repertoire (or sub-repertoire).
