A study undertaken by researchers at Clemson University reveals that users preferred text rendered
with Microsoft ClearType and that ClearType yielded higher readability judgments and lower ratings of mental fatigue. A paper will be presented at the Society for Information Display conference this June.

Subjective and objective measures were recorded from 18 users who spent 60 minutes reading fiction from each of three different displays. When reading from an LCD, users preferred text rendered with ClearType. ClearType also yielded higher readability judgments and lower ratings of mental fatigue.
