New York, NY. - 14 September 2001
Following the ATypI's announcement that next week's conference will go ahead, ATypI president Mark Batty has released a statement.
Looking ahead to a successful conference this week
As I look out of the window across the Hudson River I can still see the smoke rising from what was once the World Trade Center. No one would argue that this has been anything but a very difficult week here in New York, and also for the United States and the rest of the world. Our hearts go out to the thousands of people that have been personally touched by this tragic act of terrorism.
My reason for writing is to reassure you that in spite of the events of the last week, the arrangements for our conference in Copenhagen next week have gone ahead unabated. Our organisers Henrik Birkvig, Torben Wilhelmsen and Kim Pedersen have been putting the finishing touches to the main programme. John Hudson and Wm Ross Mills have been working on the special technology programme, and Bill Davis has been active on the e-books event. Not least, Sharon Irving and our staff have been working hard on the endless stream of organisational details that they always handle so well leading up to our conferences. We are well poised for another successful event.
I am confident that Copenhagen will be a very worthwhile, entertaining, enjoyable and well organised conference. I look forward to seeing you there.
