Dear Type Enthusiast,
OpenType and Unicode will have important influence on the quality of typographic design in the coming years. OpenType will make it possible to finetune typography more than ever before. Unicode will simplify the exchange of texts between various operating systems, independent from which language and codepages are used.
The Dutch Type Library does not only develop typefaces but also the software with which these are generated. The program DTL FontMaster supports all aspects of modern, OpenType and Unicode based fontproduction. To give graphic designers, typographers, typedesigners and others who are working in the industry more information on these recent technological developments, the Dutch Type Library organises the DTL FontMaster Conference NL 2002 in Castle Maurick at Vught (near 's-Hertogenbosch) on 24 April 2002.
A number of specialists will explain their ideas on the development of OpenType and Unicode, and will let shine their light on various technical issues. Among the speakers are Gerard Unger, designer of DTL Argo and DTL Paradox, Dr. Jürgen Willrodt, for over 25 years top-programmer in the field of software for fontproduction and responsible for the implementation of OpenType technology in DTL FontMaster, and Frank E. Blokland, founder of the Dutch Type Library and initiator and projectleader of DTL FontMaster.
The first official version of DTL FontMaster will be launched at the conference. Further there will be the presentation of the lastest sans serif typeface, DTL Prokyon by Erhard Kaiser. The new typespecimen of DTL Paradox will be presented.
The DTL FontMaster Conferentie NL 2002 is not meant only for the technically skilled graphic artist; the program has been composed so that the information is easy accessible for the graphic designer and typographer with a less technical attitude. Working with fonts in practice under Mac OS X and the functioning of OpenType fonts in programs like Adobe InDesign will come up for discussion.
Apart from the presentations, the dayprogram of the DTL FontMaster Conference NL 2002 includes a lunch. Admission costs 125,00 euro per person. Reservations can also be made via firstname.lastname@example.org
Kindly be informed that the main conference languages are Dutch and English.

About the speakers:
I guess the only one I need to introduce to you is Tessa van der Waals. She is very famous in the Netherlands, designed kilometers of price-winning books. She will tell something about a complex bookproduction (for the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica in Amsterdam, title: From Poimandres to Jacob Böhme: Gnosis, Hermetism and the Christian Tradition), for which she used apart from Western codepages various Greek charactersets. The typefaces she used for this book are DTL Haarlemmer, DTL Albertina Greek Monotonic and Polytonic.
