GemStar has decided to pull the plug on eBookNet.com the eBook news and information site acquired along with NuvoMedia in January 2000. Despite being owned by an eBook hardware manufacturer, the site offered largely unbiased coverage of eBook news, titles, hardware and authoring tools.

Casualties of Type
eBookNet joins a number of recent typography and design sites shuttered in recent weeks. At the end of March popular online font retailer Makambo.com closed its online doors and the Webtype.org site is currently missing in action.
