Russia/Grand Cayman - 16 April 2001
In a posting made to the Font Lab users community on MSN, Yuri Yarmola, lead developer of the FontLab range of products, has revealed details of the upcoming launch of FontLab 4.
FL4 will be a major upgrade to FontLab with new tools, 9 new panels, OpenType and Python support and more exciting features.
Release candidate will be released in 2 weeks from now. In about the same time (beginning of May) we will publish FontLab 4 announcement with full information and pictures. It will be followed with 3 more announcements of the new products that are now in the final stages of development cycle. Some of the announcements will be made on First Font Technology Forum held by Linotype in Heidelberg, Germany in the very end of April.
Despite the success of Microsoft VOLT and Adobe's Font Development Kit, the release of FontLab 4 will provide a huge boost to those making OpenType fonts for western markets. It's also great to hear that three other new font production products will be rolled out by FontLab in coming weeks.
