This section now includes details of the fonts supplied with 71 of Microsoft's most popular products. You can access information about two hundred and sixteen font families, and over seven hundred different font files.
2 September 1999 - Typography Integrated Development Environment "TIDE" SDK available. If you develop font tools for your own use or sale TIDE may be of interest to you. TIDE is an integrated application suit, consisting of font development tools that all leverage from a shared infrastructure. This infrastructure allows these tools to work on the same font ?le and to leverage from lower level font services.

New versions of Courier New (2.76), Times New Roman (2.76) and Arial (2.76) that support Arabic, Hebrew and Vietnamese scripts have been posted.
17 June 1999 - new WEFT 2 beta posted.
We have posted a second beta release of the new version of our popular Web Embedding Fonts Tool. WEFT is used to create font objects that can be linked to your Web pages.
19 April 1999 - Font delivery specification and Microsoft hinting and production guidelines specification posted.
These documents define the technical requirements for fonts produced for Microsoft by external type developers. We have posted them here for the general benefit of all type developers.

If you have set up your browser to notify you of changes to this site, please note that www.microsoft.com/typography/default.htm now redirects to .../typography/default.asp. This .asp (active server page) includes a rotating daily link to a particular article, download or section of the site. Therefore it is probably better to subscribe to this page (/typography/news/whatsnew.htm) as it will only change when content is added or changed.

27 July 1998 - OpenType Embedding SDK now available.
The OpenType Font Embedding SDK enables authoring applications to embed OpenType (and TrueType) fonts in documents, and allows display clients to display the text using the embedded fonts.
16 July 1998 - The developer section of the on Links page updated.
This section now lists five simple steps to becoming the world's greatest type designer. It also lists one difficult step.
14 July 1998 - Font smoother download page and FAQ updated.
We've added instructions on activating font smoothing in Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.
15 June 1998 - NT4 euro patch removed from Euro FAQ. We've removed the NT4 euro patch and now link to the update posted on the Microsoft Windows site.

23 April 1998 - Euro FAQ updated. The FAQ now includes details of the key combinations required to access the new euro currency symbol using Windows 98 and Windows NT.
21 April 1998 - Monotype.com monospaced font updated.
Monotype have made a number of improvements to the Windows 95/NT version of the Monotype.com font, available for download from the TrueType core fonts for the Web page. The font now includes a distinctive zero, the euro currency symbol, improved hints and outlines, and is now encoded as a fixed pitch font.
