The Inspiration Tour
The Inspiration Tour a national series of technology talks for students, is back for the 2008/9 Academic year, with even better opportunities for students to understand the latest software trends. There is a choice of three hours of content focusing on innovative technologies like XNA, Windows Mobile and Microsoft's vision for Software + Services.
The tour aims to inspire students to develop industry-ready skills both in and out of class that will be relevant for the next ten years. To get an idea of what you can expect to see and hear on the Inspiration Tour please check out the recorded sessions from the 2007/8 series on Channel 8:
Microsoft Inspiration Tour;Part1 - Introduction to new Technology
We have a limited number of spaces available in October to December, and January to April, so we recommend booking an event as soon as possible.
Agenda
The tour is offering universities and colleges the choice of two sessions from the following three options:
Session Title | Abstract |
Session 1: Rich Application Development using Silverlight and WPF | In this session we will look at rich application development for the web and desktop using Silverlight and WPF respectively. The platforms key features will be highlighted through a series of real world demos and code examples to help you get started with this exciting technology. |
Session 2: XNA | XNA is Microsoft’s .NET games development technology for Windows, Xbox 360 and the Zune. In this session we will use a series of interactive demos to introduce the technology, Integration with Xbox Live and help you get started building your first game. |
Session 3: Imagine Cup Workshop | This session will be set in the lab environment and will give you the opportunity to get advice on entering the Imagine Cup, pose any questions you may have, form teams and compete in round one of the competition. * Requires PC lab with internet access |

Please tell us at least two dates when our Inspiration Tour can visit you.
Our tours are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only. Since we are operating on a first-come, first-served basis, we may not be able to give you the date you prefer. If this happens, we will do our best to find an alternative date that suits you.
We will only use your contact details to arrange an Inspiration Tour, unless you give us permission to do otherwise.
We usually attract over 100 students to each session, so please reserve a 150-seat lecture hall. We will need AV (with audio) and if possible and Internet access.
