Your CV questions answered
Several months ago we
asked you to send us any questions you had about preparing a CV and applying
for a job. Over the summer we tracked down Lynn Williams, careers expert and
writer, and got her best advice on some of the challenges you’re facing.
How can you best present your experience in your CV? What should you do about redundancy or long-term illness? How can you improve your confidence at interviews? And what can you do to tackle ageism? You will find helpful solutions to these and other questions in two new webcasts on the At Work website. And if you’re running the 2007 Microsoft Office system Beta, the don’t miss the Beta 2 Technical Refresh. Vast numbers of bugs have been fixed and significant improvements have been made to the performance times. Once you’ve installed Beta 2, the technical refresh is available as a patch from the US preview site. For more information visit the Office Pioneer blog. Best wishes Chris

Your number one Outlook question answered
For the vast majority of
Microsoft Office users, Outlook is critical to keeping on top of your work –
and this is even more important if you don’t always work in the one place.
The most common question we get about Outlook (by a long way!) is “how do I keep the email on my main PC and laptop in sync?”. Now if you work for a large company this is probably no big deal (hey, the IT department sorts that out) but for individuals and smaller companies this might be your biggest frustration with Outlook. Read on to discover what solutions are available for you. Also high on many people’s Outlook wish-list is the ability to view your Outlook calendar a year at a time. If you’re using Microsoft Office 2003 (or earlier), you will need to install a third-party plug-in. One such plug-in is available from an Australian company, Planet Software. If you’ve installed the 2007 Microsoft Office system beta then there is a Microsoft add-in that you can install. (US site) Finally, if you’ve got an Outlook question that we haven’t answered, then email atworkuk@microsoft.com. We’re in the process of arranging an interview with someone from the Outlook product team and we’ll put your questions to them. |

Here is a great
keyboard shortcut you can use to move table rows or paragraphs of text.
Just select the relevant text or table row then press Alt+Shift+Up arrow or Alt+Shift+Down arrow to move the selected section up or down in your document. This command will also work with a series of paragraphs or a block of table rows. Thanks to Mark Pettigrew, Mike Beral and Robert Butterworth for all sending us this time saving tip. |
