Technology can aid mobile working

Mon, 05 Jan 2009

Technology can aid mobile working Businesses are failing to maximise the benefits provided by technology in terms of flexible and mobile working, it has been suggested.

According to the British Chambers of Commerce's (BCC) managing director John Dunsmure, technology allows businesses to embrace new working practices and encourage higher levels of workforce productivity.

He suggested that firms could use IT to embrace flexible working, allowing some employees to work from home or "out in the field".

Mr Dunsmure added: "In the current economic climate, we are going to have to work harder and smarter, and technology can make a huge difference there.

"Technology is something we take for granted in a way and we're still missing the benefits it can provide."

According research conducted by Tickbox.net/Opinion Matters on behalf of Dell in August 2008, 44 per cent of people go to the internet for business advice.

Meanwhile, 78 per cent said they would be interested to see more relevant business programming on the internet.

Last month, Angelo Lamme, wireless director at Motorola Enterprise Mobility for Europe, the Middle-East and Asia, claimed that businesses were increasingly investing in wireless technology in order to allow employees to work remotely.

She proposed that businesses considering such outlays should weigh up the total cost of ownership against the total benefits of ownership.
