Writer claims online shopping is in vogue

Many consumers now prefer online shopping to taking a trip down the local high street, it has been claimed.
Commenting after online fashion retailer ASOS reported a 93 per cent rise in its annual profits with a 63 per cent increase in active customers, Heat magazine's Bronagh Meere said using the internet allows people to avoid a sense of guilt when they make purchases.
The style writer stated: "The best bit is that it feels like it's not real because no physical money is exchanging hands.
She added that many people dislike shopping and using the internet also "eliminates the queues and stress that come with trawling the high street".
"Other people are simply bored and what better way to pass the time than doing a spot of online shopping?" she said.
Last week, the British Retail Consortium expressed concern about a reported slowdown in high street sales volumes.
Richard Dodd, head of media at the consortium, said that while growth in the online sector was likely to be significant over the coming months and years, it would not be enough to account for the losses incurred on the high street.
