The company employs Diversity Specialists whose focus includes minority recruitment, participation in and sponsorship of activities, as well as strengthening relationships with recruiting agencies that specialize in minority recruiting.

Microsoft works actively with a number of minority's organizations and campaign groups to promote careers in technology and network to identify potential employees. In particular, we have invested millions of dollars in cash, software and resources to help stimulate increased interest among minorities in scientific and technical fields. This includes dedicated outreach and investment efforts in attracting minorities to high-tech careers including grants, scholarships, event sponsorships and partnerships with universities and organizations that serve minorities.

All of our Benefits programmes support our diverse population – Microsoft UK Ltd recently picked up two industry awards for 'flexi', our flexible benefits scheme, and also for our approach to promoting a healthy work-life balance. In the Employee Benefits Awards 2004, Microsoft UK Ltd came out on top in two out of the three categories including ‘most effective use of a flexible benefits plan’, and ‘most effective work-life balance strategy’. The judges praised flexi for its simplicity, quick implementation and ability to be personalised to suit individual’s needs. They also called out the well rounded approach to promoting a healthy work-life balance, and were impressed by the way Microsoft empowers its people to choose where and when they work, by providing technology such as SmartPhones, wireless environments and broadband access at home, plus the family-friendly environment and approach

Microsoft has been a pioneer in workplace diversity and is one of the first companies in the world to offer employee benefits to same-sex domestic partners, cover transgender surgery and include sexual orientation in its corporate non-discrimination policy. Since 1989, Microsoft has supported and sponsored Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender issues at Microsoft. In 1993 an organized employee affinity group was launched named GLEAM this now comprises of more than 700 members .

We aim to create an inclusive environment where leaders can capitalise on diverse styles and perspectives, and to develop an atmosphere where diverse teams work in synergy. Our work environment programs support a diverse workplace and diverse work styles. For example we provide multi-faith rooms at our sites and our restaurants and café’s support all manner of dietary requirements including, Low Fat, Vegetarian, Wheat Free and Halal options.
