BETT 2008

Once again, the BETT show was a hugely successful and busy event and if you got the chance to attend, we hope you enjoyed it and found it useful.

On the Microsoft stand we were busy discussing and demonstrating our latest technology innovations for the education sector and giving out our Partners in Learning DVD. If you didn’t get a copy but would like one, email your name and address details to us and we’ll send you one out.

BETT 2008 Presentations

Our theatre hosted presentations on subjects ranging from future technology and e-safety to virtual learning environments and personalised learning, some from the teachers and ICT staff that are using Microsoft solutions within their schools to improve teaching and learning.

The Gateway Project

Hugh Baldry from the Teacher Development Agency, and partner schools from France and Spain, discussed the learnings from their pan-European project, connecting pupils and staff in English, French and Spanish primary schools together using collaborative technologies and video conferencing. Connected Learning Gateway

Alex Pearce, of Hillcrest School demonstrated their use of the Microsoft Learning Gateway, which is helping to support an improving 6th form retention and expanding the resources and learning opportunities available to students not just within his own school but to another nine in the collegiate. Stephen Carrick Davies from Child Net and Ruth Hammond of Becta discussed the vital subject of keeping young people safe online, and demonstrated some of the resources produced by the Know IT All project, supported by Microsoft. Download the presentation

Anika Small, CEO at FutureLab gave a keynote on the Enquiring Minds project - a three-year research programme into a new model of learning, which has been supported and funded by Microsoft as part of our Partners in Learning initiative. Shireland Learning Gateway

Sir Mark Grundy from the Shireland Collegiate Academy demonstrated how they are using Microsoft Learning Gateway to deliver on DCSF targets to offer personalised learning spaces to students by 2008, learning portals to all stakeholders by 2010 and real-time reporting of attendance and assessment information to parents and carers by September 2010 - engaging parents more closely with school activities by keeping them regularly informed of student progress.
