Work at Home Rights

Education institutions that have acquired licences through Microsoft Academic Volume Licensing programs may grant their faculty and staff the right to use a second copy of a limited selection of products on either a home or portable computer for work-related purposes.
The following is an overview of the Work At Home rights available through each of our academic volume licensing programmes.

Academic Select Work at Home Licences

For each licensed copy of Microsoft Office, the primary user of the computer on or from which the product is run may also run a second copy from either a laptop or desktop computer that he/she owns/leases. The software may be used only for work-related purposes and only during the term of the agreement (including any renewals). These Work at Home licences do not apply to students unless the student is also an employee.

Campus Agreement and School Agreement Work at Home Licences

Work at Home licences for Campus Agreement and School Agreement customers are available for all application, system, and CAL products that you license at no extra cost. You can order Work at Home licences free of charge when completing your annual software order.

You must make reasonable efforts to ensure that faculty, staff, or other employee users delete and remove such copies from their computers at the end of the agreement term. To help you communicate these requirements to your users, sample Work at Home acceptance forms are available for download on the right-hand side of this page.

Software Covered by Work at Home Rights

Work at Home rights do not apply on all Microsoft software. They only exist for specific Microsoft application software, e.g. Microsoft Office. You will need to check your End User Licence Agreement (EULA) to ensure that Work at Home rights exist for your particular Microsoft application software. Work at Home rights do not apply on full-version Operating Systems or Server products.

For other software not covered by Work at Home, staff can order Open licences, or Academic Full Packaged Product through a Microsoft EdLAR (Education Large Account Resellers) or an AER (Authorised Education Reseller). You can also find out more about Academic Full Packaged Product and Microsoft Home and Teacher software.
