SESP Overview

The Subscription Enrolment for Schools(SESP)-U.K. Pilot gives academic customers in the United Kingdom (U.K.) greater choice and flexibility in how they acquire and use Microsoft products by providing user- and PC-based pricing options with no institution-wide commitment.

This pilot offer for schools and local authorities in the U.K. will launch 6 July, 2009.

Subscription Enrolment has the following features:

  • User- and PC-based pricing
  • Optional institution-wide commitment
  • 12-36 month agreement term (subscription)
  • SA included
  • Low 50 unit (points) minimum order
  • Student option needed only for device counting
  • 2 pricing levels for Enterprise products

Subscription Enrolment for Schools-U.K. Pilot mirrors the existing School Agreement in many ways, including:

Top ^
  • Subscription Term: Subscription terms are for either one or three years.
  • Product Availability: The most current versions of any available Microsoft products may be licensed. Please refer to the Microsoft Volume Licensing Product List to see these products. Customers may choose an unlimited number of products. However, minimum order requirements do apply.
  • Adding Products: Orders submitted throughout the year are priced per product and pro-rated with a minimum six-month price. The licensed period will expire at the same time as the initial order.
  • Software Assurance: Subscription Enrolment for Schools-U.K. Pilot includes Software Assurance, which provides additional benefits such as New Version Rights, Home Use Program (HUP), Spread Payments, Windows Vista® Enterprise operating system upgrade, TechNet Subscription Through Software Assurance, Extended Hotfix Support, Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs, Cold Backups for Disaster Recovery, and and E-Learning.
  • Upgrade/Downgrade Rights: As with all products licensed through Subscription Enrolment for Schools-U.K. Pilot, customers can opt to deploy new or previous versions of the licensed product instead of the current licensed version.
  • Fulfillment: Customers receive customized kits (“Smart Media” kits) that include all products ordered (and no products they did not order).
  • Work at Home Rights: Limited Work at Home (WAH) rights for faculty and staff are available at no extra license cost. These rights permit using application, system, and Client Access License (CAL) products on a personally owned PC for work-related purposes only. (Schools may incur some costs for obtaining and distributing WAH media.)
  • Product Evaluation Rights: During the subscription term, products are available via download for trial purposes. The evaluation software bits for certain products are available for download from the Microsoft Volume License Services (MVLS) site at https://licensing.microsoft.com/.
  • Volume pricing for platform commitment: A cost advantage is available for institutions that commit to all three enterprise products institution-wide or non-institution wide during their agreement term.
