How to Buy Software Assurance
Software Assurance can only be bought when you buy a new licence, or renew the Software Assurance on an existing one. Coverage starts immediately and expires when your volume licensing agreement ends - at which time you can renew Software Assurance through a new licensing agreement.
With original equipment manufacturer (OEM) licences, you have 90 days from the day of purchase to enrol these licences in Software Assurance through a volume licensing agreement. This can be done through your reseller.

Select Licences and Software Assurance membership
With Select Licences, you can choose at the start of the agreement to designate product 'pools' for Software Assurance membership. This means that any licence you acquire within a designated product pool must be bought with Software Assurance.
