Microsoft's portfolio of web tools and technologies provides an end-to-end solution for anyone looking to create compelling, reliable and performant web applications, as quickly as possible.
This event will cover the latest developments in rich internet technologies using "WPF/E" and how to integrate rich services such as mapping and contact information using the Windows Live APIs into your web applications. You will see the latest developer and designer tools from Microsoft, Microsoft Visual Studio `Orcas' and the Microsoft Expression suite.
Session 1 (Martin Parry):
The Windows Live platform offers two things that a web developer can't ignore: a large active user base and some great reusable "components". You can build solutions that use Windows Live services, whether or not you have skills dedicated to the Microsoft development platform, through the use of Client-Side Aggregation (a.k.a. mashups). This session will show how to tap into the huge audience already enjoyed by various Windows Live services, by using Live Gadgets and/or Live Messenger. We'll then show how you can impress that audience by incorporating feature-rich components, such as Virtual Earth and the Windows Live Contacts Control.
Session 2 (Mark Johnston):
Creating compelling websites using Expression and `WPF/E': A walkthrough of how to go beyond HTML and Ajax with the Microsoft web platform. `WPF/E' is the codename for a cross platform runtime enabling a subset of Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) XAML to reach beyond the latest Windows PC platforms. This session will introduce `WPF/E' and demonstrate how to create media rich sites on both ASP.NET and non-Microsoft web platforms.
