The benefits of NHSmail
If you sign up for NHSmail you'll be signing up for so much more than just an email service. NHSmail is different. Provided for all NHS staff in England and Scotland, NHSmail is secure so you can safely exchange patient identifiable information between NHSmail accounts.
You can access it over the internet so you can always keep in touch wherever you are, you get to keep the same email address while you work for the NHS, even if you change organisation and the NHS directory contains the contact details of over 1 million staff, making it much easier to get in contact. You can even send free SMS messages from your NHSmail account!
Signing up is easy, just make sure you're on a secure NHS connection and click here to sign up
Free training and special offers for NHS staff
Meanwhile, the NHS Resource Centre is a community website set up by Microsoft for NHS staff. This site offers handy tips and information ranging from technology articles and NHS case studies to regular GP column features. Through the site you can also take advantage of discounted software benefits; for example all staff are entitled to one copy of Office 2007 for home use for under £18. There are also lots of other discounts available on a variety of Microsoft software including Windows Vista, Xbox games, hardware and even books – go to the My Offers section of the site for details!
One of the biggest perks available on the NHS Resource Centre, is free online training. We have just launched a brand new e-learning platform which is an enhanced version of the legacy online training and offers a wide range of up-to-date courses as well as new features to give you a better training experience.
As well as the existing courses in Office 2003, you now have free access to the entire Office 2007 collection of courses (including training in Groove and OneNote features). You will also find new training in SharePoint Services 3.0 and Windows Vista!
The new training platform allows users to create a tailored training plan and track their progress with access to their own personal training page. It also allows training managers to assign specific courses to different role-based staff within their NHS organisation.
We are currently working in conjunction with Microsoft to create brand new NHSmail training using Outlook Web Access (OWA) and this will be hosted via the NHS Resource Centre e-learning platform.
Access the training right now – it’s free! If you are not already a member of the NHS Resource Centre, then sign up here and once you’re in, click on the E-learning tab.
