How to make use of the licenses in the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement if you're a GP

The product licenses available within the current term of the Enterprise Agreement that the NHS has with Microsoft, which expires in May 2010, are available to be installed and used on the NHS owned laptops and desktop PC's within your practice. You can obtain these licenses through your NHS trust's IT support department and your regional Large Account Reseller (LAR) manages a list of authorised individuals for each trust. Any changes to this list have to be authorised by the primary contact or in exceptional cases NHS Connecting for Health.

More details of the licenses and services that are available, are in the licensing section of this site but the core software available is:-

  • Windows Vista Business Edition
  • Core Client Access License (CAL)
  • Office 2007 Professional Plus Edition

If you can reach the required NHS Infrastructure Maturity Model (NIMM) level for Software Asset Management and Collaboration then Office 2007 Enterprise Edition and Enterprise CALs are also available to you.

Other licenses availabe under the Enterprise Agreement are:

  • Forefront, the anti-virus suite (all NHS users)
  • SQL Client Access Licenses (350,000 NHS users)

If you want to purchase any server licenses these must be acquired through your Select Agreement.

Talk to your Microsoft Large Account Reseller for more detailed information on what is available from the Enterprise Agreement.
