What is Software Assurance (SA)?

Microsoft Software Assurance is a comprehensive maintenance offering that helps you get the most out of your software investment. Effectively SA allows you to “upgrade” to the latest software version throughout the length of the agreement.

It combines the latest software with phone support available 24 hours a day, partner services, training, and IT tools that help customers deploy, manage, and migrate software.

Software Assurance benefits increase worker productivity, accelerate organisational performance, and more rapidly realise a return on software investment.

What is Client Access Licensing (CAL)?

If your organisation's workstations are networked, you will be using a network server and the workstations on the network will access that server(s) software to perform certain functions such as file and print sharing.

In order to legally access this server software, a client access licence or CAL may be required. A CAL is not a software product; rather it is a license that gives a user the right to access the services of the server.

N.B. Server Licenses are not included as part of this agreement, however these can be purchased through Microsoft (Catalist) resellers.

Software Assurance Benefits?

There are a number of benefits available to NHS employees through the Enterprise Agreement. Staff benefits comprise of the Home User Programme, Employee Purchase Programme, free e-learning courses and training vouchers.
