Operating systems, such as Windows, are often installed on new PCs, so the authentication marks appear on the Certificate of Authenticity (COA), which is a label stuck to the chassis of the PC. Software that is sold in a box will carry authentication marks both on the packaging and on the CDs that contain the software.
