MICROSOFT SUPPORTS VILLAGE PEOPLE

European Developer Relations Group teams with chip manufacturer AMD to sponsor Milia 2000's Developer Village.

Milia ’00,Cannes: Microsoft’s Developer Relations Group (DRG) is to underline its commitment to fostering emerging games development talent by joining forces with AMD to co-sponsor the Developer Village at this year’s Milia exhibition.

The Village (located in the new Riviera Hall) will provide a total of 40 developer spaces, designed to allow smaller development groups and start-up teams from all over Europe to showcase their work in progress and to meet potential publishing partners.

“Milia is a perfect environment for fledgling developers to show off their wares, as it doesn’t have the intense sales pressure that often exists at other trade shows,” says Mike Gamble, Microsoft’s European Product and Evangelism Manager for DirectX Technologies. “We are confident that anyone who takes the time to visit the Developer Village will be very pleasantly surprised by what’s on view.”

“It’s a sad fact that those developers who most need the exposure offered by an event such as Milia are often least able to attend,” adds David Whitten, European Development Manager for AMD. “We were therefore only too happy to become involved with this Developer Lounge when we heard the organisers’ plans. Who knows? One or more of the attendees may just be a star of the future.”

As co-sponsors, Microsoft and AMD are offering support on a number of levels. In addition to providing state-of-the-art systems for demonstration purposes – AMD is providing 80 Athlon-equipped PCs (including the Kryotech SuperG 1Ghz PC), with operating systems from Microsoft – the two companies will also ensure that key members of the software publishing community are on hand to see what’s on show. Graphics and sound hardware will be supplied by S3/Diamond.
