Exclusive MSN-Columbia TriStar Films (UK) deal makes perfect 'Spidey' sense

London - UK - 5th April 2002 - This summer's biggest blockbuster - Spider-Man - is coming exclusively to MSN.co.uk, the UK's most popular web site1. And the deal clinched with entertainment giant Columbia TriStar Films (UK) sees MSN running its biggest promotion ever for a single client. Over a three month period starting April 5th 2002, the online push is predicted to reel in over 200 million page impressions throughout the period.

Part of the biggest marketing effort for a Columbia TriStar Films movie this year, MSNs promotional package for the Spider-Man film (http://www.msn.co.uk/specials/spiderman/) includes:

  • Competition to win tickets to the LA world premiere and after-show party

  • A premium Hotmail newsletter feature aimed at 7 million registered users
  • Special Spider-Man content pages tied into a dedicated micro site
  • Text links and extensive banner ads - including MSN's unique new ad formats
  • Direct response competitions across all major channels, like Entertainment
  • Awareness coverage through major services, like MSN Messenger

Amanda Anthony, MSN Business Marketing Manager, said: “Spider-Man is the hottest movie of the summer. And Columbia TriStar Films (UK) is one of the most exciting partnerships of the year for MSN. It's a landmark promotion that will commit more content areas, services and ad products than ever before for a single client. We're confident this will enable Spider-Man to reach vast amounts of targeted traffic, through a range of tried and tested creative formats."

The film itself, directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and Willem Dafoe, will be released in cinemas throughout the UK on June 14th 2002 (and in the US on May 3rd 2002). The official film web site is live at www.spiderman-themovie.co.uk.

Stuart Williams, Marketing Director of Columbia TriStar Films (UK) , says: "Spider-Man is one of the biggest movie releases of the year and will have a huge marketing campaign to support its release in the UK on June 14.
