Digital Skills for Citizens (DS4C) is a Microsoft initiative that gives everyone the opportunity to become IT literate. It makes technology accessible and helps to improve the digital skills of people who could otherwise not afford it.
This enables people on the wrong side of the ‘digital divide’ to realise their potential in a society where IT literacy is now a professional and social requisite. The initiative also meets governmental environment/green objectives by lengthening the lives of PCs.
DS4C is an example of Microsoft’s commitment to support the public sector not only on a commercial footing, but also to a public – private partnership with Government in helping provide access to technology for its citizens.
One of a number of digital inclusion initiatives at Microsoft, the DS4C programme is really helping people to cross the digital divide, providing access to technology and content whilst helping them improve their IT skills in a sustainable and scalable way.
DS4C is underpinned by the principles of the Microsoft Unlimited Potential campaign, which is Microsoft’s global aspiration to helping bring technology and computing skills to one quarter of a billion underserved people by 2010.
