British workers are not switching off

Thu, 28 May 2009

British workers are not switching off Britons are finding it harder to switch off from work as technology has made people more accessible, it has been claimed.

A study conducted by lastminute.com has found that 47 per cent of Britons holidaying at home are still checking in with their office using their mobile appliances.

Commenting upon this emerging trend, Jonathan Cudworth, head of product marketing at Expedia.co.uk, said it is becoming more difficult for people to juggle their work life balance.

He noted: "People have become much more interested in what's going on in their workplace and it has become much more part of their life.

"We found that 23 per cent of British people stay in touch with work whilst on holiday which is phenomenal."

Mr Cudworth said technology had certainly has played a part in making it easier for people to remain in contact with their colleagues and employees, leading to greater involvement in work affairs from home and remote locations.

"People have lost a bit of that edge when it comes to switching off from work because it is such a demanding part of their time," he added.

Earlier this month, Brett Caine, general manager of Citrix Online, claimed mobile technology has facilitated flexible working in the business world.
