Mobile technology facilitating flexible working

Fri, 15 May 2009

Mobile technology facilitating flexible working Small businesses can embrace mobile working to drive efficiencies without the need for significant financial outlay, it is claimed.

Brett Caine, general manager of mobile working firm Citrix Online, says widespread internet access and collaboration technologies are allowing businesses of all sizes to mobilise their workforce.

Such innovations provide additional flexibility without the need to invest in expensive and complex on-premise infrastructure requirements, he suggests.

World Wide Workplace Council member Amanda Alexander echoed the comments, stating that it makes "eminent sense" to fully utilise the web commuting options provided by mobile technology.

She comments: "The more we can demonstrate the benefits, the more we can build momentum for its uptake. The government talks about flexible working and having time off for parents with children under a certain age.

"If the government promotes web commuting as an integral part of their flexible working initiative, this can only improve the retention of skilled employees and benefit companies' bottom lines."

Earlier this year, Yes Telecom sales and marketing director Simon Howitt told SME Web that mobile technology is allowing small business owners and employees access to computer documents, email and the internet from the office, home or on the move.

He claimed that small businesses in the UK now possess over four million mobile devices between them.
