Olympics to create mobile technology opportunity

The Olympic Games in 2012 could present an excellent opportunity for businesses to make use of mobile payment technology, it has been suggested.
According to IT consultancy Consult Hyperion, London is already a leading 'contactless' city and will be well equipped to support such technology in four years time.
Dave Birch, director at the firm, said London's use of the contactless Oyster card and the city's already very active mobile community mean the Olympic event will be an ideal time for "UK companies to show off some great things" in terms of innovative payment systems.
He added: "There is also a reasonably vibrant mobile sector with people doing interesting things to make new mobile services.
"I felt it was slightly disappointing when the chief technical officer of the Olympics said that they would only accept tried and tested technologies and thought it would be unlikely they would be using contactless payments. I think 2012 should be a chance for the UK to show something off in a positive way."
Last week, Visa announced the launch of the world's first commercial mobile payments service for point-of-sale transactions using Near Field Communications technology.
