Small company blogs suffering neglect
Thu, 09 Jul 2009
Too many small businesses are failing to keep their blogs up to date, it has been reported.
According to research conducted by search engine optimisation firm Write My Site, 62 per cent of respondents set up a blog in the hope that it would increase traffic to their websites, but only 29 per cent add content to them every month.
The remaining 71 per cent of respondents said their blogs had fallen by the wayside.
Emily Hill, managing director of Write My Site, said some users do not know what to write about and some lack the time to produce regular, keyword-threaded content.
She added: "When a blog hasn't been updated for several weeks or months it looks unprofessional people tend to be relieved to learn they can offload the time-consuming task of keeping their blogs up-to-date."
Ms Hill noted that Google and the other search engines pay "great attention" to sites that regularly add original content, meaning those businesses which fail to commit to this strategy are potentially missing out on generating new leads.
Chris Lake, editor in chief at Econsultancy, claimed recently that businesses should blog frequently to establish a real voice in their particular market.
