Expert says entrepreneurial activity is increasing

A new study has indicated that despite the ongoing global recession, an increase in the amount of entrepreneurial activity is being witnessed.
In the US, where the sub-prime mortgage fall-out sparked the initial credit crunch, greater interest is being seen from individuals wanting to establish their own enterprises, it has been claimed.
Christian Conroy, state director of the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Center, said more people were hoping to start a company to help take advantage of the opportunities provided by the recession.
He stated: "History supports that new firms emerge during times of economic turbulence, when unemployment is high and the entrepreneurially-minded seize the opportunity to start companies."
Mr Conroy commented that business support services are available to provide guidance to those who have a business plan, but lack the knowledge or confidence to execute it.
"We're already helping thousands of small companies survive and grow, and there is no doubt this is making a difference," he added.
Last week, Vanessa Canzini, a spokesperson for eBay, claimed that new online retail companies are emerging as the downturn ensues.
