Business world accepting working mothers
Tue, 16 Jun 2009
Attitudes have changed within the business world towards working mothers, one expert has claimed.
Tatjana Hine, president of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs (BAWE), says that while in years gone by there was a certain expectancy that mothers would stay at home to raise the family, this is not necessarily the case any longer.
She comments that attitudes have changed for the better, but this is partly because of the sacrifices made by female professionals who wish to juggle life in the corporate world with child raising responsibilities.
Ms Hine notes: "People are obviously more flexible, we try and be more flexible in regards to our time regarding children and that I think is vital.
"It is very important because we understand how difficult it is."
Research conducted by Prowess earlier this year has indicated that working mothers and other female entrepreneurs can help lead the UK out of recession.
The firm says positive evidence points to women business owners driving a new, more robust feminine enterprise model based on diligent risk taking and collaboration which takes account of wider social values alongside profits.
A Prowess study found a 40 per cent rise in enquiries for business advice from such firms which tend to be debt-free or have well-managed debts.
