Women possess vital technical skills
Thu, 04 Jun 2009
Women have some skills which are vital in the recession and could help them to stand out from their male counterparts, according to one organisation.
Gender-orientated industry website Women in Technology claims start-up businesses should look at their female talent to help lead them through the period of economic downturn.
Maggie Berry, director of womenintechnology.co.uk, has told Onrec that women tend to have "stronger communication skills" and more "technical ability" than men.
During a recession, when it is essential to build and maintain relationships, having women in a team is "essential", she added.
Ms Berry stated: "Women bring a different set of skills to the table; skills that are vital in challenging times such as these."
Research by the organisation recently found that women in the technology industry had a certain skills set which made them stand apart.
One respondent to the survey said she possessed more social skills than her male colleagues.
The British Computer Society recently claimed that women see the IT industry as one in which they can forge a career, despite it being a male-orientated sector.
Research from the organisation found that 70 per cent of women think there are IT jobs available to them in the current economic climate.
